Tips and strategy
Urban Chaos .io is easy to learn and hard to master. These tips come from hours of play against bots and real players. Use them to survive the dangerous first minutes, grow faster and stay on top once you are big.
The first minute (levels 1 to 3)
- Eat the scooters first. Level-0 scooters and other Minis are everywhere downtown. Three crushes take you to level 2.
- Live in the alleys. Vehicles above level 3 cannot enter them. When a red label gets close, the nearest alley is your best friend.
- Use your speed. Small vehicles are the fastest in the game (146 km/h for the Mini against 96 km/h for the BIGFOOT). Most giants cannot catch you on a straight road.
- Watch the ⚠ traffic. Aggressive traffic cars change lanes to hit you. Do not drive right in front of them.

Growing fast (levels 4 to 8)
- Hunt where the traffic is dense. Downtown and the avenues give the most crushes per minute. The empty edge of the city is slow.
- Turn jams into buffets. When cars stack up behind a slow truck, everything smaller than you in that jam is trapped.
- Keep your coins up. Same-level fights are won by the vehicle with more coins. Do not burn everything on boost.
- Remember that small prey counts less. From level 4 on, scooters are only worth 0.2 or 0.5 of a crush. Aim for vehicles one or two levels below you.
Being a giant (levels 9 to 11)
- You are slow now. Use the toll expressway and tunnels to cross the city quickly.
- Use the map. Open the full map (M or tap the minimap) to find clusters of green dots, and the Giant Radar to locate the other giants before they find you.
- Same-level giants are the real danger. Two BIGFOOTs: the rammer with more coins wins. Never ram a same-level vehicle with fewer coins than it.
Driving technique
- Decide late. You can still turn until the middle of an intersection: approach straight, look at the threats, then pick your street.
- Press the arrow twice before a turn onto a big road to land directly in the second lane, away from the curb.
- The oncoming lane is a tool, not a home. It costs $1 every 0.5 s: use it to pass a jam or reach a prey, then get back.
- Boost in short bursts. At $1 per second, a two-second boost is usually enough to escape or to close the gap.
Climbing the leaderboards
The leaderboard keeps the best score of each player. Long runs score more than short ones because crushes get more valuable as you grow (crushing a player or bot also takes part of its score). Create a free account so your nickname is reserved and your best runs are kept on every device.
